Dr. Md. Abdul Karim holds 43 years of experience in field administration, Foreign Service, Secretariat, as well as development and corporate sectors. Currently he is serving as the Executive Director of UCEP Bangladesh. Priorly he was the Managing Director of PKSF, President of Bangladesh Deaf Sports Association, and Secretary General of the Southeast Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation, Dhaka. Prior to this, Mr. Karim was twice the Chairman of Green Delta Insurance Limited and served as a Senior Adviser of BRAC. He previously served as the Principal Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Commerce, Fisheries and Livestock, Finance (Internal Resources Division) and Communications (Bridges Division).
His experience saw him serve as the Economic/Commercial Counsellor of Bangladesh Embassy in Belgium; Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and as Chairperson of several national level committees of various ministries. He is playing a pivotal role to promote trade and investment among five countries of the South and South East Asian region including Bangladesh. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Rotarian where he contributes towards improvement of socio-economic condition of the disadvantaged people. His diplomatic attachments had led him to attend many international summits, conferences, meetings and seminars including the United Nations General Assembly.
For his education, Mr. Karim attended the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh and obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry, and went on to study Master of Social Science degree in Development Administration at the University of Birmingham, UK. He received his PhD degree from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Dhaka for his research work on Sustainable Poverty Alleviation Approach for Bangladesh.
