The Challenge Fund

Explained

GOAL

To promote one of its core values, innovation, SAJIDA Foundation launched the Challenge Fund: a unique and transparent mechanism that aims to maximize the impact of innovative, socially-driven initiatives of early-stage NGOs, social enterprises or start-ups. The Challenge Fund will provide long-term support to enable the growth of initiatives framed around creating scalable solutions for specific challenges.

HOW DOES IT WORK

SAJIDA’s Challenge Fund will play the role of an angel/seed investor and support selected early-stage NGOs, social businesses or start-up organisations working in the fields of health (physical and mental), agriculture, education, environment, or WASH. The Challenge Fund will offer financial and business development support to the organisations to accomplish pre-defined objectives, with a focus on social impact and innovation and attempt to align development and business objectives.

SUPPORT

Technical support will be available for applicants throughout the application process. The Challenge Fund team will organise physical and online information sessions for potential applicants. Interested parties are welcome to contact the Challenge Fund team to discuss ideas and seek guidance or support for concept note development. Once projects are selected for implementation, tailored business development services support will also be made available to maximise delivery of results.

HOW TO APPLY

The Fund will open a thematic call for concept notes whereby applicants are invited to submit their ideas for projects. The call for concept notes will be published on the website and through social media channels.
Once submitted, concept notes will be assessed by the Challenge Fund Investment Leads and Investment Committee. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a complete proposal. A template for the same will be provided by the Challenge Fund team.
