SAJIDA participates in the “1st National Compliance Carnival 2018”

As part of its efforts to promote safer working conditions for RMG workers and greater compliance and accountability of the RMG industry, SAJIDA Foundation participated in the “1st National Compliance Carnival 2018” organized by Institute of Compliance Professionals (ICP) on April 20, 2018. Ms Zahida Fizza Kabir, Executive Director of SAJIDA Foundation engaged in the Panel Discussion titled ‘Shifting Compliance into Responsible Business Practices – A new business model for sustainability and women empowerment’ moderated by Ms Rubana Huq, MD, Mohammadi Group. Other Panelists included Ms Shwapna Bhowmik, Country Head, Marks & Spencer, Bangladesh and Myanmar, Thomas Radal, Regional Social and Environmental Manager, Carrefour and Ms Farhtheeba Rahat Khan, Team Leader, Working with Women Project, SNV, as Key Note Speaker. The Panelists discussed the important role of compliance in business entities and practices with the engagement of women in different positions.

Two other panel discussions were held as part of this program. This included one on ‘Transformation of the Garments Industry towards the Target of 50 Billion by 2021 and role of Compliance’ moderated by Dr. Ayub Nabi, Pro VC BUFT, and with ATM Mahbubul Alam Milton, ED- Masco Group as the keynote speaker; and another on ‘Environmental compliance- Expectation and Reality’ moderated by Ms. Sarwat Ahmed, Sr. Advisor, PSES, and with Mohammad Monower Hossain, Senior Deputy Secretary, Environment Cell, BGMEA as the key speaker.

Honorable Minister of Information of the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu MP attended the program as the chief guest while Mr. Michael Schultheiss, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Economics Section, German Embassy Dhaka, Dr. Annie Vestjens, First Secretary SRHR and Gender, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Mohammad Hatem, 1st Vice President Export Association of Bangladesh and Mr. Atiqul Islam Former President of BGMEA graced the event as special guests.

The event included around 1,300 registered participants including compliance professionals, representatives from BGMEA, BKMEA, business professionals, NGOs and Government organizations and was held at International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka, Bangladesh.
