Dhaka, June 1] – SAJIDA Foundation initiated project funded by Give2Asia to support COVID-19 positive frontline healthcare workers in joint collaboration with the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Government of Bangladesh and healthcare professional. Initiated in May, the project further aims to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) alongside risk allowance to 50 healthcare workers serving at SAJIDA’s Narayanganj Hospital.

With the primary objective to design a compensation mechanism to support affected frontline workers while minimizing economic shocks for families who lose a working member from COVID-19, SAJIDA’s six month-long project is focused to ensure access to and delivery of quality healthcare service at the Isolation Centre at Narayanganj. The Foundation is also working to make the project initiative sustainable, scalable and replicable with support from DGHS, in order to establish a compensation scheme benchmark for frontline healthcare worker during a pandemic.

SAJIDA Foundation, with the BDT 12,600,000 received in grants from Give2Asia – equivalent to USD 150,000 – plans to pay BDT 6,600,000 to the families of deceased frontline healthcare workers. At the same time, pay-outs will be made to 37 families as 50 medical professionals in Narayanganj COVID-19 Isolation Centre receive risk compensation and equipment to serve patients. Furthermore, through the implementation of this support project, SAJIDA envisions developing a digital map of COVID-19 affected healthcare professionals using the critical insights the Foundation will have gathered over the duration of the six months. Through documentation and analysis of the location, profile and causes of infection of the infected healthcare workers, the collated information will be shared with DGHS and relevant stakeholders to help design future interventions.
