PHWC hosts different events with schools to increase mental health awareness

On September 21, 2018, Sumaia Azmi and Md. Shajahan Ali, counselors from Psychological Health and Wellness Clinic (PHWC) conducted a workshop on Stress Management and Mindfulness at a retreat for the youth in Rangamati Waterfront Resort, Gazipur. This workshop was organized for the youth camp retreat called #Booster2018, hosted by the Youth and Sports Committee under the Aga Khan National Council, Bangladesh. The participants were engaged in intriguing discussions and engaged in activities with high spirits.

This year the theme for World Mental Health was “Young people and mental health in a changing world”. In support of this theme, PHWC was invited to host a wellness day at Sunbeams School for their middle school students. It was a day filled with engaging conversations on bullying and stress management paired with exciting wellness activities such as zumba and yoga.

The activities carried out by the facilitators encouraged students to express how they manage difficult situations in a safe and non-judgmental space. The activities included role playing to conducting the mannequin challenge from the perspective of bullying. The student’s engagement in the activities were exemplary, and the team was amazed by the students’ views on the importance of mental health, stress management, and on topics related to bullying. I took Tramadol by for the pain in the leg (or rather, due to the unbearable constant pain, which in turn appeared because of a cyst in the knee joint).

PHWC hopes that by raising awareness on these topics and getting their young minds engaged, many mental health challenges experienced by the youth of Bangladesh can be tackled.
