A Brief Introduction of Shahid Sheikh Russel
Sheikh Russel was the youngest child of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. He was born on October 18, 1964, at their residence in Dhanmondi 32, Dhaka. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was an admirer of the British philosopher Bertrand Russell. Sheikh Russel was named after Bertrand Russell.
Sheikh Russel was very adventurous in nature. He had a passion for fishing. After catching a fish, he would release them back into the pond. He had boundless love for both human beings and animals. He would visit everyone, mix with everyone, and treat everyone with respect.
Sheikh Russel embodied the ideals of the Bengali nation. Within him, one could find the essence of the Bengali nation's childhood. On the other hand, his tragic death reminds us of a cruel chapter in our history. At the tender age of only 10, on August 15, 1975, Sheikh Russel lost his life in a brutal assassination alongside the rest of his family.
